Providence Hospital is a full service, 349-bed medical/surgical facility accredited by The Joint Commission. Since its founding in 1854, Providence has been serving, caring for and healing the people of Mobile and surrounding areas. Our mission is to extend the healing ministry of Jesus Christ to south Alabama and southeast Mississippi, with a special concern for persons who are poor and vulnerable.

Today, Providence Hospital is part of Ascension, the nation’s largest system of Catholic, not-for-profit healthcare facilities. Ascension was formed in 1999 when the Daughters of Charity National Health System joined with the Sisters of St. Joseph to create a new faith-based healthcare ministry. Since then, Providence Hospital has come together with our sister facilities in Ascension in order to combine new technologies and innovative treatments with a compassionate, healing environment. Ascension operates 2,500 sites of care – including 141 hospitals and more than 30 senior living facilities – in 24 states and the District of Columbia.
